Application Period Open for County of Santa Clara Community Fireworks Grant

Local government agencies and nonprofit organizations can apply for funding for public firework displays

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – The grant application period is now open for government agencies and nonprofit organizations to help fund safe and legal Fourth of July fireworks events in Santa Clara County. Applications are due by March 31.

“This grant helps our communities fund safe and responsible Fourth of July celebrations,” said Chief Operating Officer Greta Hansen. “We want all Santa Clara County families to celebrate without the potential for injuries or accidently setting fires to buildings or vegetation. This is a great way to help communities and non-profits give residents a fun alternative to consumer fireworks.”

A total of $25,000 in grants for up to two fireworks events in each of the five supervisorial districts ($5,000 per district) are available. The events must be open to all people of Santa Clara County, be family-friendly, and consider both public and fire safety educational elements.

A panel of representatives from the Santa Clara County Fire District, Office of the Sheriff, Office of the County Executive, and Parks and Recreation Department will review and evaluate all submissions. The County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors will review and approve the panel’s recommendations in May 2024. Grant recipients will be notified and receive funds following Board approval.

Selection qualifications/criteria for fireworks events are:
1.    Must be held in Santa Clara County;
2.    Must be an existing event, at least in its second year, with allowance for nonconsecutive years due to the public health orders in effect during the pandemic;
3.    Must include public/fire safety educational element(s);
4.    Must be open to all residents of Santa Clara County and be family-friendly; and
5.    Must be able to specify how the County of Santa Clara grant award will be used, if selected.
