Board of Supervisors Donations and Sponsorships

Each year, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors may donate to and/or sponsor a number of non-profit events and activities. To help non-profit partners better understand the process, the policy outlined below sets guidelines under which donations and sponsorships may occur and be approved by the Board of Supervisors. 

All donations and sponsorships initiated by board members are subject to the following:

  1. No donation or sponsorship shall exceed $5,000.
  2. Board approval of a sponsorship must occur at least 30 days before the event/activity, in part to ensure that the County of Santa Clara is appropriately acknowledged as a sponsor for the event/activity. In order to allow timely approval by the Board, applications should be submitted at least 60 days before the event. 
  3. Any donation or sponsorship of an event or organization focused on one Supervisorial District must involve that Supervisor as one of the Board Members initiating the request.  This provision does not apply to events or organizations of a countywide nature.
  4. Total donations and sponsorships per fiscal year per Supervisorial District must not exceed $20,000. Where two Board Members jointly initiate a request, the amount will be divided equally between the two districts.
