County Children, Seniors and Families Committee Schedules Hearing on Issues Impacting Women

Supervisors Chavez and Cortese Encourage Public Participation; Hearing Precedes Women’s March on Washington​

WHAT:

County of Santa Clara Supervisor Cindy Chavez, Supervisor Dave Cortese, respectively Chair and Vice Chair of the Board’s Children, Seniors and Families Committee are convening a Special Committee hearing to address women’s issues.  The unprecedented committee hearing provides a forum for County leadership, local elected and appointed officials, service providers and the community at large to provide testimony on emergent women’s issues in light of the 2016 Presidential election, and to identify the next steps for developing a women’s issues communication and services plan for Santa Clara County.

 

The Women’s Issues Hearing agenda includes:

1. Panel Presentation by County Leadership and service providers on issues affecting women and girls relating to reproductive health rights, violence against women, civil rights & Title IX, civic engagement and women and children in poverty.

2. Public Comment to allow members of the public the opportunity to address the Children, Seniors and Families Committee and the Women’s Issues Hearing body.

3. Discussion and next steps. The hearing will conclude with a discussion by the Committee and the Women’s Issues Hearing body regarding next steps.

Transportation and parking instructions for the special hearing

Visitors are encouraged to use public transit and any other commute alternatives, such as bicycles, carpooling, and hybrid vehicles. Public transit access is available to and from the County Government Center, located at Hedding and First Streets in San Jose by VTA bus lines *61, 62, 66, 181 and Light Rail. (*61 Southbound last trip is at 8:55 p.m. for this location). The Light Rail stop for this location is Civic Center.

Hearing attendees are encouraged to park in either the “Free 1 Hour Public Parking” lot (highlighted in orange on the map) directly adjacent to the County Government Center, or the “County Employee Parking” lot (highlighted in light blue on the map) across the street.  After 5:00 p.m., there is no parking time limit in either lot. It is advised that guests do not park in the “Public Parking Civic Center Parking Garage”, as it closes at 7:00 p.m.
