Federal Agency Restores Santa Clara Valley Healthcare’s Medicaid and Medicare Reimbursement Status

Santa Clara County, Calif. –  On February 24, 2023, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) completed a revisit survey of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) on behalf of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  As a result, SCVH’s deemed status has been restored with CMS, allowing SCVH to continue receiving reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid.

On January 25, 2023, SCVH received a letter from CMS that SCVH was found to be out of compliance with several CMS Conditions of Participation based on a two-week survey conducted in September 2022.   The letter further advised that for SCVH to continue participating in the Medicare program after April 25, 2023, SCVH must submit an acceptable plan of correction (POC) and subsequent verification of compliance by CDPH.  On February 6, 2023, SCVH submitted the POC addressing each of the findings.

CDPH notified SCVH on February 22, 2023, that the POC submitted on February 6, 2023, was accepted.  Two days following the acceptance, on February 24, CDPH conducted the resurvey visit and verified SCVH’s compliance with the POC.  On March 3, 2023, SCVH received a letter from CMS providing official notification of compliance and participation in the Medicare program.

“We appreciate the time and efforts of CDPH and CMS to review and approve our Plan of Correction and to affirm our compliance with the CMS Conditions of Participation,” said Paul E. Lorenz, Chief Executive Officer for Santa Clara Valley Healthcare.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the staff who have shown an unwavering commitment to maintaining a high standard, a level of compassion and the work ethic that is necessary to care for all of our patients,” said County Executive Jeffrey V. Smith, M.D., J.D.
