County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors to Hold FY 2017-2018 Budget Workshop Sessions beginning May 15

County Executive’s Recommended Budget addresses Federal and State uncertainties, funding to support affordable housing and the homeless, correctional facilities and programs, and continued investment in County infrastructure

WHAT:

At budget workshop sessions beginning Monday, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors will review County Executive Jeffrey V. Smith’s Recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2017-2018, which begins in July. The County Executive is asking the Board of Supervisors to continue investing in essential services as well as address urgent service needs. Key issues include improving correctional facilities and programs; providing support for homeless programs and creating affordable housing; supporting whole person care for our clients most in need; continuing to build back the County's infrastructure; and building in reserves to protect the County from federal and state economic threats and uncertainties such as the federal budget and repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The recommended $6.5 billion budget includes all services, operations, capital improvements and reserves.  The County Executive’s recommended General Fund budget is $3.4 billion, which covers all discretionary and many mandated services for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017.

The budget workshop sessions are the public’s early opportunity to engage and comment on the planned allocation of resources.
