County of Santa Clara Office of Supportive Housing Announces Expanded Shelter Services Starting Friday, December 28, 2018

Extended hours and additional beds will be available at shelters  throughout Santa Clara County

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. - In response to the National Weather Service forecast of temperatures dropping into the 30s, the Office of Supportive Housing is announcing that an expanded number of beds and extended hours are available at shelters throughout Santa Clara County starting tonight, Friday, December 28, 2018 to Wednesday morning January 2, 2019. Overnight Warming Locations will open at 9 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, December 30, 2018.

Up to 150 additional beds will be available at:

  • City of San Jose Overnight Warming Locations
  • Bill Wilson Center
  • City Team Ministries
  • Gilroy National Guard Armory
  • HomeFirst’s Boccardo Reception Center
  • Salvation Army
  • LifeMoves Shelters for Single Adults
  • Project WeHOPE

ABOUT INCLEMENT WEATHER EPISODES

During extreme cold temperatures, the County of Santa Clara Office of Supportive Housing activates the Inclement Weather Plan, which supplements the regular, ongoing cold weather shelter program.

The current trigger conditions are as follows:

  • There is a forecasted overnight low of 40 degrees or lower with a probability of rain of less than 50%;
  • There is a forecasted overnight low of 45 degrees or lower with a probability of rain of 50% or greater, or
  • There is a forecasted period of rain for 48 hours or more likely to result in flooding.
