County of Santa Clara Reopens Grant Opportunity for Community Fourth of July Fireworks Events

The program, established to fund safe and legal fireworks events, returns this year after pandemic hiatus

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF.— Government agencies and nonprofit organizations can now apply for grants to help fund safe and legal Fourth of July fireworks events in Santa Clara County this year. The County’s fireworks grant program, which was suspended for three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, returns for 2023.

“If you want to celebrate the Fourth of July with fireworks, it’s best to leave it to the professionals,” said Chief Operating Officer Greta Hansen. “We’re happy to be able to bring back this grant opportunity to help fund public displays for the community so we can all see fireworks light up the sky in the safest way possible this year.”

The program, which began in 2016, allocates a total of $25,000 to sponsor up to two fireworks events in each of the five supervisorial districts ($5,000 per district). Events must be open to all residents of Santa Clara County, be family-friendly, and consider public/fire safety educational elements.

A Safety Panel comprised of representatives from the Santa Clara County Fire District, Office of the Sheriff, Office of the County Executive, and Parks and Recreation Department will review and evaluate all submissions. The County of Santa Clara’s Board of Supervisors will review and approve the panel’s recommendations in May 2023. Grant recipients will be notified and receive funds following Board approval.

Selection qualifications/criteria for fireworks events are:

  1. Must be held in Santa Clara County;
  2. Must be an existing event, at least in its second year, with allowance for nonconsecutive years due to the public health orders in effect during the pandemic;
  3. Must include public/fire safety educational element(s);
  4. Must be open to all residents of Santa Clara County and be family-friendly; and
  5. Must be able to specify how the County of Santa Clara grant award will be used, if selected.

Interested organizations must submit completed applications by e-mail to [email protected] no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023.
