Santa Clara County, CALIF. –  In the area of Social Responsibility, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center ranked 4 out of 241 hospitals in California and 20th out of 3,010 hospitals nationwide in the Lown Institutes Hospital Index. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center received an “A” (the highest ranking) in the areas of Equity, Value and Outcomes.

“We are proud to be recognized for being a socially responsible hospital, as well as for the excellent care we provide and the value we bring to this community,” said Paul Lorenz, CEO of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. “It is part of our mission to care for everyone in our community. We do this every day and we do it well, and it is meaningful to be recognized for doing so. We are here for anyone in Santa Clara County who needs our care.”

The Social Responsibility category is the overall score, which reflects performance across health equity, value, and outcomes. Equity reflects the organization’s commitment to inclusivity, pay equity, and community investment.

When it comes to value, the Lown Institute looked at how well hospitals deliver care, avoid unnecessary tests and procedures, and achieve good clinical outcomes at a low cost. Clinical outcomes looked at success in clinical settings, and specifically at low mortality and readmission rates, as well as patient safety.
